THINGS TO DO

Island trip
Some small islands make a fine day trip from Koh Samui, such as the islands of Taen and Matsum, about two kilometers from the southern end of the island.  Koh Taen offers the opportunity to explore bat caves, as well as nature hiking, fishing, sunbathing, diving, and snorkeling.

DivingTrivia: Koh Taen, according to the locals, never had a dog, since canines can not survive here.  This phenomenon was later explained as due to the unusual sound waves produced by the bats when they leave the islands caves and roam at night.  The waves make the dogs sick, and eventually die.
